Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner – Dermatology

• The Dermatology PA/NP is responsible for the care and management of general and cosmetic patients in the outpatient clinic.

Position Summary

• The Dermatology PA/NP works collaboratively with a board certified dermatologist, and performs diagnostics, therapeutic and cosmetic procedures in accordance with Virginia PA/NP regulations.

Specific Duties 

• Obtains health histories and performs examinations
• Formulates treatment plans and follow-up
• Reviews and interprets diagnostic test
• Initiates medical orders, consulting with physician when necessary
• Writes prescriptions as needed in accordance with scope of his/her practice
• Performs diagnostic, therapeutic and cosmetic procedures
• Coordinates the activities of patient care and support staff within the dermatology clinic
• Monitors patients and provides continuity of care between visits
• Instructs patients regarding medication and treatment
• Provides patient education
• Provides oral and written communication with referring physician and pharmacists
• Maintains skills on current trends in equipment, materials and treatments
• Attends conferences and meetings as required
• Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations

Licensure/Certification 

• Certified by the NCCPA, AANP, or ANCC
• Virginia licensure as PA/NP
• Provides evidence of application for DAE certification upon hire or obtain DAE certificate within 90 days of hire and maintain certificate thereafter
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
